What is the Ruah Intensive Team?

Ruah Inreach Intensive Team offers a metropolitan area-wide service to persons who are dealing with severe and persistent mental health issues, homelessness, chaotic lifestyle and complex psychosocial issues. Long term continuity of service is possible to prospective clients, and workers may continue support to individuals who relocate frequently across the metropolitan area.

Who does the Intensive Team assist?

The Intensive Team assists people who experience:

  1. Serious and persistent mental illness that may be untreated, in particular to individuals dealing with multiple diagnoses and disorders.
  2. Homelessness
  3. Complex psychosocial issues e.g. forensic history or current offending behaviours
  4. Problematic substance use
  5. Chaotic lifestyle associated with high level of risk
  6. A range of difficult or survival behaviours that may have led to bans from essential services and supports
  7. Sense of hopelessness and despair about quality of life issues.
  8. Issues around sexuality, domestic violence, family and parenting.

The team welcomes working with Indigenous and culturally diverse people.

What does the Intensive Team Offer?

The team has a community-based case management approach, which incorporates the following aspects:

  • Relationship based and client centred
  • Strengths, empowerment and developmental focus
  • Psychosocial and recovery support
  • Co-working with statutory services as required.

There are two main models of service delivery, and work is streamed into:

  1. STABILISATION. Working to stabilise individuals experiencing homelessness or who move location frequently, with tenuous or no links with mental health services, and difficulty accessing or working with support systems.
  2. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT. Supporting individuals seeking to live independently and includes reintegration into community living, perhaps following long term residence in hostels. Individuals usually have complex psychosocial needs, and want support to be housed, learn living skills, and maintain security of tenure.

Where is the Intensive Team located?

The Intensive team provides a service across the metropolitan area.
